- by iphone-tips-tricks.com - According to an report by fellow blogger 9to5mac, one of the passengers of Chilean plane crash was carrying an iPhone. The relatives of the crash victim logged into Find My iPhone and were able to isolate the coordinates of the last known whereabouts of the plane before it crashed. That information was then given to the Navy who are using it to coordinate the rescue efforts to find the fuselage, the aircraft's main body section.
Find My iPhone is a free app and service for the iPhone and iPad to quickly locate the position of that device. The main purpose is to track back the device in case you lost it some how. The built-in GPS works nearly worldwide, however you need internet to pass the coordinates back to the Find My iPhone server.
