But in iOS5 you can switch them on in your keyboard Q: How can I enable Emoji icons? A: Well it is fairly simple because it is a defined as an international keyboard. Follow these instuctions.
1. Open Settings
2. Navigate to General - Keyboard - International Keyboards3. Tap Add New Keyboard
4. From the list of international keyboard layouts choose Emoji. see picture below
